The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank, is executing the Program for Strengthening the Management and Dissemination of Energy Information for Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Within the framework of this Program, OLACDE developed a methodology for calculating the final prices of the main energy sources in the countries of the region, taking as reference the concepts used by the International Energy Agency and the International Recommendations (IRES).
Based on this methodology, the support of the OLACDE’s 27 member countries was requested to collect statistical information from the last 5 years on the prices of electricity, natural gas, LPG, gasoline, diesel, coal, among others for the consumer sectors. This, in order to analyze the economic importance of the different commercial transactions associated with the use of electric energy and fuels in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
With the data collected, OLACDE prepared the Energy Price Report based on information from 20 countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico , Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Through this work, OLACDE makes available the Energy Price Report, a document that aims to promote more sustainable planning in Latin America and the Caribbean.
