As part of his official visit to Ecuador, Colombia’s Minister of Mines and Energy, Edwin Palma Egea, visited the headquarters of the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) in Quito. He was received by Executive Secretary Andrés Rebolledo, together with the organization’s leadership team and representatives from the Colombian Embassy in Ecuador.
During the meeting, both delegations held technical discussions aimed at strengthening regional energy cooperation and exploring new opportunities for jointly developing programs that contribute to strengthening Colombia’s and Latin America’s energy sector.
The meeting made it possible to identify strategic areas of collaboration, with special emphasis on harnessing the region’s potential in nuclear energy, hydrogen and geothermal energy. These technologies are regarded as fundamental pillars for advancing decarbonization, diversifying energy mixes, and strengthening the resilience of electrical systems.
The meeting also highlighted Colombia’s leadership in energy integration processes and its commitment to transitioning toward sustainable, equitable and resilient models. In this regard, participants underscored the importance of coordinating regional efforts in planning, technological innovation and financing, backed by OLACDE’s technical support.
This visit is part of the work agenda driven by OLACDE to promote active cooperation among member countries and support the design and implementation of public policies that accelerate energy transformation in Latin America and the Caribbean.
