OLACDE incorporates one more Energy Information System to its Member Countries: siePanama
The Republic of Panama now has an Energy Information System (siePanama), which is a free and open access platform with a technological base that enables decision making in the short, medium and long term, on the country’s statistical information.
OLACDE at COP26: Three new countries join the RELAC initiative
Yesterday morning The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) participated in the Side Event organized by the RELAC initiative “Renewing Energy Transition Ambitions in Latin America and the Caribbean,” which was held in the framework of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) taking place in Glasgow-Scotland.
OLACDE joins REN21 in order to jointly promote the increase of renewable energies in Latin America and the Caribbean
This new alliance between The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) and REN21 will boost cooperation between diverse actors at global, regional and local levels, working towards the decarbonization of different sectors in Latin America and the Caribbean.
OLACDE at the COP26
The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) will be part of some of the side events that will take place in the framework of the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP26, organized by the United Kingdom in collaboration with Italy, which will take place from October 31 to November 12, 2021 at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow (UK).

This morning the Executive Secretary of The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), Alfonso Blanco, in a dialogue with the international news network CNN en Español, said that hydrogen is one of the fuel alternatives of the future and “as a region we have the ability to become a potential exporter of renewable energy to the rest of the world, because we have the best availability of wind and solar energy resources, which are very good conditions for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to produce hydrogen at a low cost compared to the rest of the world.”
The new methodology for the preparation of energy balances based on international standards – IRES – was presented
As part of the “Program for Strengthening the Management and Dissemination of Energy Information for Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean”, executed by The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) and financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), a Virtual Training Workshop on the Methodology for the Management of Energy Statistics was held.
The VI Energy Week will promote decarbonization processes in Latin America and the Caribbean
Latin America and the Caribbean is moving, through different energy transitions, towards a carbon neutral energy system by the middle of the 21st century. The energy transition is not a one-dimensional issue of infrastructure change, it must be supported by a national commitment and must be developed in parallel with actions aimed at increasing the participation of renewable energies in the energy matrix and policies that reduce energy consumption and promote energy efficiency in all consumer sectors.
OLACDE and OAS discuss opportunities for cooperation in the framework of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas
On September 27, 2021, OLACDE’s Executive Secretary, Alfonso Blanco Bonilla, met with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, to discuss opportunities for cooperation between OLACDE and the OAS in the framework of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA).
The RELAC initiative was presented at the United Nations High-Level Energy Dialogue
On September 24 , 2021, The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) participated in the RELAC event: An Energy compact to promote renewables in Latin America and the Caribbean, held parallel to the High-Level Dialogue on Energy summit.
