The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) took part in the seminar “25 Years Since the First Presidential Meeting of the Brasilia Consensus: Challenges and Perspectives,” organized by the Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA) and Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty).
Representing OLACDE, Guido Maiulini, Chief of Strategic Advisory, spoke on the Infrastructure Integration panel, alongside authorities from Brazil’s Ministries of Planning and of Science and Technology, as well as representatives from P&D Brasil. During his remarks, he highlighted that the region faces four major challenges in advancing energy integration:
Expanding interconnection infrastructure.
Strengthening regulatory frameworks.
Promoting joint planning with a long-term vision.
Access to sustainable financing mechanisms.
Maiulini also highlighted initiatives led by OLACDE, such as the Regional Energy Planning Council, and its collaboration with the Pro Tempore Presidency of CELAC on the design of a Regional Electricity Interconnection Plan.
In his remarks, he emphasized: “The energy agenda is not limited to infrastructure; we need multilateral negotiation forums to move toward the regulatory convergence that will create regional energy markets. This will enable more competitive prices, greater security, climate resilience, and reduced emissions.”
With this participation, OLACDE reaffirms its commitment to regional integration processes and its role as a technical facilitator in building more sustainable and resilient energy markets.
