As part of AmeriGEO Week 2025, held at the National University of Colombia, the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) took part in the plenary session “How satellite-based systems and scientific measurements can drive methane mitigation,” organized by the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) of the United Nations Environment Programme.
The session was moderated by María Alejandra Garzón, an OLACDE consultant, on behalf of the Latin American and Caribbean Methane Emissions Observatory (OEMLAC), a regional initiative that seeks to consolidate reliable information and foster cooperation in reducing emissions.
The panel brought together representatives from Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil, including national authorities and technical experts, who shared experiences on the use of satellite data and field measurements to strengthen methane mitigation strategies. Participants agreed on the importance of inter-institutional and intersectoral coordination to accelerate climate action in Latin America and the Caribbean.
With this participation, OLACDE reaffirms its commitment to promoting regional initiatives that strengthen countries’ capacity to measure, report, and mitigate emissions, contributing to the fulfillment of global climate objectives and the building of a more sustainable energy sector.
