As part of the “Crecer con Energía” (Growing with Energy) conversation series organized by ICARE Chile, the Executive Secretary of the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), Andrés Rebolledo, presented an update on the regional energy landscape, highlighting achievements, structural gaps, and strategic opportunities in the context of the global energy transition.
During his remarks, Rebolledo emphasized that Latin America and the Caribbean already generate 69% of their electricity from renewable sources, positioning the region as a world leader in clean generation. He also highlighted ongoing transformations:
• Accelerated growth of electric mobility and the electrification of final consumption.
• Progress in green hydrogen, energy storage, and grid digitalization.
• Regional energy integration as a strategic pillar for security and sustainability.
“The energy transition is an opportunity for the sustainable development of our region,” Rebolledo said. “We are the greenest area in all of global electricity generation: a rich, diverse, and complementary solution region.”
In this context, Chile’s Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow, praised the country’s competitive potential in developing renewable energy, noting that 70% of the energy generated in Chile in 2024 came from clean sources. He also highlighted that Chile has an institutional and energy storage ecosystem unparalleled elsewhere in the world.
Finally, Rebolledo reiterated that the energy sector is today the largest source of investment in Chile, with a strong impact in terms of economic development, resilience, and sustainability for the entire region.
