The city of Manta was consolidated this Tuesday as a meeting point for the leading players in Ecuador’s energy sector. The Oro Verde Hotel hosted the forum “Manta Energy 2025: Horizontes Energéticos” (“Manta Energy 2025: Energy Horizons”), a day-long event that brought together representatives from business, academia, and civil society to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the national energy system from a territorial perspective.
The event was organized by Universidad UTE and its Social and Energy-Mining Innovation Laboratory (LSIEM), together with the Manta Chamber of Commerce, and was supported by OLACDE, AEREE, and various leading companies and institutions in the sector.
UTE stood out as the pioneering institution behind the forum, whose goal is to open study and research opportunities for young people in areas such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, regulation, and infrastructure management, linking hands-on practice, applied projects, and employment opportunities with industry to build the talent required for a just energy transition.
OLACDE’s Director of Studies, Projects, and Information, Fitzgerald Cantero, took part as a keynote speaker on the “Manta Energy 2025: Horizontes Energéticos” panel, presenting on “Energy Scenarios in the Region.”
During his remarks, Cantero underscored the strategic role of Latin America and the Caribbean in the global energy transition, highlighting the value of the region’s natural resources, the urgency of stable public policies, and the importance of advancing electrification, energy efficiency, and emerging technologies such as green hydrogen.
