With the aim of strengthening the management, availability, and dissemination of statistical information on the energy sector in Latin America and the Caribbean, the official launch took place of the National Energy Information System – sieBolivia, a software platform developed by the Latin American and Caribbean Organization of Energy (OLACDE) in collaboration with Bolivia’s Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy (MHE) and with financing from the French Development Agency (AFD).
sieBolivia is a strategic tool for modernizing and standardizing the country’s energy data, strengthening planning processes, public policy formulation, and sector performance evaluation. During the launch event, Fitzgerald Cantero, Director of Studies, Projects and Information at OLACDE, and Marco Yujato, an OLACDE Specialist, presented the main results of the technical assistance provided for the system’s implementation, highlighting that the platform makes it possible to integrate, process, and publish reliable and standardized energy information, automate data management through modern internet-based technologies, and ensure the sustainability of the information through the Interinstitutional Energy Information Committee.
It was also emphasized that sieBolivia optimizes the management of national energy data, facilitates informed decision-making, and promotes transparency in the public management of the sector, while strengthening institutional capacities and interoperability among the entities involved in the country’s energy chain.
With the launch of this platform, Bolivia is moving toward a more efficient, modern, and evidence-based energy management model, positioning itself as a regional benchmark in the development and application of energy information systems. This effort is part of OLACDE’s ongoing commitment to supporting its member countries in strengthening their statistical systems, regional energy integration, and the promotion of policies aimed at a sustainable energy transition.
