The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) celebrated the second edition of the 2025 Energy Excellence Award during the X Energy Week in Santiago, Chile. The ceremony brought together regional authorities, representatives from the public and private sectors, academia, and international organizations, in an event that recognized the innovation and commitment of the best energy projects in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This year saw a record 104 applications from 15 countries, across four main categories: Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Education, and Decarbonization. Each category included subcategories that made it possible to recognize the contributions of public and private entities, as well as initiatives with an impact on large, medium, and small communities.
At the opening, OLACDE’s Executive Secretary, Andrés Rebolledo, emphasized the importance of highlighting projects that are making a difference in the region’s energy transition, praising the creativity and commitment of the applicants. The ceremony also featured remarks from the Chilean authority, representing the host country of the X Energy Week.
Award-winning projects
The winners were selected by an international Evaluation Committee made up of experts and representatives from OLACDE, the Business Council, and the host country, together with specialists of recognized standing in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energy, education, and decarbonization.
Among the award-winning projects were:
Energy Efficiency:
o “Mi Calor, mi Hogar” Program (Chile) – special mention.
o KilowatIA’s digital platform for efficient energy management (Panama).
o Improvement of the electrical grid’s load factor by CLYFSA (Paraguay).
o Lighting efficiency at the Ministry of the Interior (Uruguay).
o UTE’s DAICE 3 Project (Uruguay).
Renewable Energy:
o Photovoltaic solar system for fish farming by Firmantes de Paz (Colombia) – special mention.
o Puerto Guzmán Fair and Sustainable Community (Colombia).
o Puerta de Oro Solar Park (Colombia).
o Photovoltaic self-generation in rural homes in Sucre (Colombia).
o CNFL’s SER Solar Project (Costa Rica).
Education (new category):
o Optimal Configuration, Sizing and Operation of a Multi-Energy System for the University of Technology (Jamaica) – special mention.
o Construction of sustainable solar water heaters (Argentina) – special mention.
o Master’s Degree in Energy Efficiency from the University of Cienfuegos (Cuba).
o National Energy Efficiency Olympiad (Brazil).
o INACAP’s educational model (Chile).
o EcoVan MOVER-U: electric intercampus transport (Ecuador).
Decarbonization:
o Evergo Connect, the first charging station powered by 100% renewable energy (Dominican Republic).
o Green Guardians: Decarbonizing the Amazon by SERTECPET (Ecuador).
o From Waste to Resource: use of flare gas by EP Petroecuador (Ecuador).
o CNG Savings Program of the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (Peru).
With this award, OLACDE reaffirms its role as a driver of regional energy integration, promoting initiatives that strengthen innovation, sustainability, and cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean. The event concluded with a call to continue promoting projects that accelerate the transition toward a cleaner, more inclusive, and more resilient energy system.
