The Director of Studies, Projects and Information of the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), Fitzgerald Cantero, participated as Keynote Speaker at the 4th “Guayaquil, City of Energy” Congress, organized by CECERNALC.
The event brought together experts, academics and leaders of the energy sector to reflect on the challenges and opportunities facing Latin America and the Caribbean in energy efficiency, renewable energy, planning and public policy.
During his talk, Cantero shared a strategic vision of the region’s energy challenges, highlighting the role of cities, sustainable mobility and regionally-focused energy planning.
“Public energy policies must become State policies. We are talking about major projects, major investments and major challenges. And that requires a long-term vision, solid institutions and clear rules that guarantee the return on those investments.
There are no one-size-fits-all solutions, but there is one certainty: energy is a vital issue, and we must manage it with responsibility, technological diversity and regional cooperation,” said Cantero.
He also emphasized that the energy transition must be built on robust institutions, ongoing technological diversification and a shared vision of the future among the region’s countries, in order to consolidate a sustainable, competitive and inclusive energy model.
