The Dominican Republic hosted the National Capacity-Building Workshop for Women’s Energy Networks, a participatory event organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) and the Chilean Association of Women in Energy (AME).
The gathering brought together women from the energy sector across a range of disciplines, with the aim of consolidating an inclusive national network with the capacity for regional coordination, technical influence, and the building of strategic alliances. The activity is part of a series of regional initiatives aimed at closing the gender gap in the energy field.
The event was attended by Gloria Alvarenga, OLACDE’s Director of Integration, Access, and Energy Security; Alfonso Rodríguez, Vice Minister of Energy of the Dominican Republic; and Pía Suárez, President of AME, who took part in the sessions of reflection, experience-sharing, and collective work.
“Today we are here in the Dominican Republic for our fourth national Women’s Energy Network workshop, part of an effort led by OLACDE together with various associations. This joint work drives our gender and energy agenda in the region,” said Gloria Alvarenga.
Likewise, Paola Pimentel, President of the Dominican Republic’s Renewable Energy Women’s Network, highlighted the importance of these spaces for continuing to promote women’s leadership and active participation in the country’s energy transition.
The session focused on providing concrete tools to strengthen the work of women’s energy networks at the national level, helping to build a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable sector in Latin America and the Caribbean.
