{"id":20191,"date":"2025-12-04T15:41:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T15:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.olacde.org\/olade-modifica-oficialmente-su-nombre-a-olacde\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T14:02:38","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T14:02:38","slug":"olade-modifica-oficialmente-su-nombre-a-olacde","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.olacde.org\/en\/olade-modifica-oficialmente-su-nombre-a-olacde\/","title":{"rendered":"OLADE Officially Changes Its Name to OLACDE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) announced that its new official name, the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), has entered into force, after all 27 Member States completed their respective internal approval and ratification processes required to formalize the name change, originally established under the 1973 Lima Agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The change consolidates a process that began in 2007, when the Meeting of Ministers approved the proposal to amend Article 1 of the Lima Agreement in order to reflect the presence of countries from the Caribbean subregion in the Organization&#8217;s name. The process advanced with the approval of this change under the domestic legislation of the Member States, in compliance with Article 36 of the Lima Agreement, which establishes that any amendment to its content will only enter into force once all 27 Member States have formally deposited their ratification.<\/p>\n<p>With Haiti&#8217;s ratification in October of this year, the name change was officially completed and took effect.<\/p>\n<p>Executive Secretary Andr\u00e9s Rebolledo noted that &#8220;ten of OLADE&#8217;s member countries belong to the Caribbean region, so the change in the Organization&#8217;s name reinforces its integrating vocation and reflects the reality of a diverse regional energy space that today constitutes a Latin American and Caribbean community of cooperation, integration and sustainable development.&#8221; He also emphasized that the name change marks a milestone for the Organization&#8217;s institutional identity and international profile.<\/p>\n<p>OLACDE will continue to fulfill its role as the highest-level technical-political body on energy matters in the region, consolidating a common platform for cooperation, integration and sustainable energy development, and the new name will be implemented progressively across all official instruments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About OLACDE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) is a public intergovernmental cooperation, coordination and technical advisory body, established on November 2, 1973 through the signing of the Lima Agreement, ratified by 27 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, with the fundamental objective of promoting the integration, conservation, rational use, marketing and protection of the Region&#8217;s energy resources.
