On January 21, 2026, at the Marriott Hotel in Quito, the official presentation of Expo Energ\u00eda and Energy Summit 2026 took place, an event marking the launch of a platform designed to bring together a business fair, a conference space, and strategic networking around the energy transition and energy efficiency in Ecuador and Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n
The event brought together representatives from international organizations, the diplomatic corps, the public sector, businesses, the financial sector, and energy sector leaders, demonstrating the interest and support generated by a specialized fair aimed at connecting technology offerings, investment, knowledge, and decision-making in a single space. The presentation offered a preview of the scope and objectives of an event that seeks to have a concrete impact on the development of the energy sector.<\/p>\n
The speaking program included Andr\u00e9s Rebolledo, Executive Secretary of the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), who offered a regional perspective on the structural challenges of the energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean. During his remarks, he emphasized the importance of having platforms that facilitate dialogue among public policy, investment, and technological development.<\/p>\n
Rebolledo noted that while electrification is a fundamental pillar of the energy transition, it currently accounts for around 20% of total energy demand, which reinforces the need to accelerate the decarbonization of the remaining 80% through complementary and diversified solutions. He also highlighted the region’s sustained progress in renewable energy: over the past decade, Latin America and the Caribbean have gone from 58% to nearly 70% clean electricity generation, driven significantly by solar and wind power.<\/p>\n
He also pointed out that several countries in the region already reach renewable generation levels above 80% during certain hours of the day, reflecting the region’s leadership in transforming its electrical systems and consolidating an increasingly clean energy mix.<\/p>\n
Initiatives such as Expo Energ\u00eda and Energy Summit 2026 strengthen regional dialogue, drive energy diversification, and promote sustainable solutions that support countries’ economic and technological development.
