Regional oil production increased 20% compared to the previous year. And, looking ahead, LAC is set to see even greater growth outside of OPEC member countries. Regarding natural gas, the report states there was 10% growth.

The report notes that 46% of regional oil production went to exports with China, which has established itself as the leading destination for external sales, accounting for 31% of LAC’s oil trade, followed by the United States and the European Union.

In natural gas, OLACDE highlights that 59% of regional imports come from the United States, reflecting the high level of energy integration in North America, while Argentina, along with Trinidad and Tobago, maintain a strategic role as the region’s leading exporters of liquefied natural gas.

The analysis also projects that, despite the accelerated advance of renewable energy and electrification, oil and natural gas will continue to hold a significant share of the regional energy matrix over the coming decades, with shares of close to 26% each in the primary energy matrix of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Full report at the following link: https://www.olacde.org/publicaciones/panorama-2025-produccion-y-comercio-exterior-de-petroleo-y-gas-natural-en-america-latina-y-el-caribe-alc/

The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE) presented the report 2025 Outlook: Oil and Natural Gas Production and Foreign Trade in Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighting strong momentum in the region’s hydrocarbon sector, driven mainly by the growth of Guyana and the sustained leadership of Brazil and Mexico.
